New to Church? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to get you started.
Church is a place for people to encounter God, and we hope you do, whether you are a regular church attender or this is your first visit. We know it can be helpful for people to know what to expect, so here are some practical answers to frequently asked questions.
- What should I wear? Wear whatever you are comfortable in.
- What happens when I arrive? You’ll be greeted by our Welcome Team; feel free to take a seat wherever you would like.
- How will I know what to do, and when? You will receive an order of service booklet which clearly explains the format of worship. If there is anything specific in a service, the Ministry Team will guide everyone. Please don’t worry about what to do – simply turn up and enjoy!
- What about children and young people? Children and young people are welcome at all of our services — they are an important part of our church! During our main services, we have a designated children’s corner with toys and colouring; a private crèche area for feeding or if your child needs more space; and we also try to fully integrate all ages into each service. We truly value the energy and wonder of young people!
- What is worship music like and should I sing along? We have a worship team at the front and the lyrics to the songs will appear on a large screen, so it’s easy to sing along if you would like to. We enjoy all music from traditional hymns to contemporary worship songs and everything in between.
- What is a sermon? This is a talk with a message, based on Bible passages. We always aim to discuss relevant topics and how God’s word still affects our lives today.
- Is there a collection in the service? Yes, but this is only for regular church-goers. Please do not feel any pressure to contribute, unless you really want to.
- If I have a question, who should I speak to? Look out for one of our Welcome Team or feel free to grab the vicar after the service!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
